The solo private practice of L. Rebecca Connell, LCSW, Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, is also called Center for Stress Reduction, both in the sense of a place to focus on your wellness and a play on the idea of centering yourself.  Social workers use the biopsychosocial model, valuing the roles that biological, psychological, and social factors and structural inequities play in health.  I work from a weight-neutral, body liberation perspective and am trained in nutrition through Dr. Leslie Korn’s Brainbow Blueprint for Mental Health.

Integrative Mental Health
Energy Psychology is a group of self-calming practices involving breathing and touching one’s own face and body. Scientific studies and clinical experience, including with veterans, are confirming that Energy Psychology and Emotional Freedom Techniques can help with anxiety and trauma, enhancing nervous system regulation, and reducing pain sensation. Many of the practices are influenced by thousands of years of acupuncture.

I encourage you to explore how food may impact your mental health.  Information provided on nutrition is only a general summary of research and experience, and is not a substitute for an individualized nutrition recommendation for your particular condition with a healthcare provider.

California Nutrition Law Notice:
State law allows any person to provide nutritional advice or give advice concerning proper nutrition--which is the giving of advice as to the role of food and food ingredients, including dietary supplements. This state law does NOT confer authority to practice medicine or to undertake the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, or cure of any disease, pain, deformity, injury, or physical or mental condition and specifically does not authorize any person other than one who is a licensed health practitioner to state that any product might cure any disease, disorder, or condition. --as required by the California Code, Business and Professions Code - BPC § 2068

It is possible to become your own friend, to become kinder to yourself and more welcoming of all of your experience, including difficulty.

I specialize in stress reduction and have helped many people move from feeling stressed to more relaxed and aware.

During stress, the heart rate goes up, breathing becomes shallow, and the body tenses. You my feel overwhelmed, sad, angry, worried, or numb. You don't sleep well. You just don't have enough time to do everything. It becomes harder to make decisions.

Stress is inevitable in our busy lives. Stress can lead to:
    •    insomnia
    •    tension
    •    feeling constantly rushed
    •    decreased communication
    •    school problems
    •    irritability and moodiness
    •    pain
    •    resentment

Meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and increase well-being . Many people think that during meditation, they need to stop thinking. It is not necessary or possible to stop thinking, though the mind may sometimes become more clear and more spacious.

Integrative psychotherapy that skillfully gives you tools to cope with stress can bring you:
    •    relaxation
    •    vitality
    •    focus
    •    self-awareness
    •    better boundaries
    •    caring relationships
