Integrative Therapy for Anxiety, Insomnia, and Pain
|
Do you find yourself feeling on edge before a big presentation, or even something that seems like it could be so simple, like hanging out with friends?
Are you waking up in the middle of the night with your to-do list going through your mind?
Is anxiety causing you to second-guess what people think about you?
If anxiety is blocking your potential in work, school, and relationships, you deserve to see a consultant who has her finger on the pulse of the latest research and best practices.
I am a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. I specialize in anxiety and offer you evidence-based ways to calm your nervous system, including meditation and tapping/Emotional Freedom Techniques. I help people sort out the emotional and physical factors contributing to their anxiety and depression. We look at foods that have been shown by research to help with mood, and I support you in developing your own mindful intuition to see what works for you. I work from a body liberation, fat justice perspective and celebrate the LGBTQ and transgender/non-binary community.
I am available to see individuals during the day, and I see couples during the day or evening for longer sessions. Note that I do not take insurance.
As an anxiety specialist, I'll help you formulate a list of goals to coach you to make changes to have the life you want. I'll show you some cool research about the biological root causes of anxiety. You can see what helps you feel more focused and happy.
Have you been in pain for years with no clear solution?
Do you eat a breakfast bar driving one-handed to work in the Bay Area, and eat lunch at the computer?
You don’t have to live this way.
Anxiety, insomnia, and depression are in part physical experiences, felt in the body as a jittery flutter or a heavy, leaden weight. They respond beautifully, according to research and experience, to physical care — movement; sunshine and nature; delicious food; breathing.
Pain is in part an emotional and mental experience, felt in the mind as frustration, fear, isolation, grief, and concern. It responds beautifully, according to research and experience to emotional and cognitive care — counseling, mindfulness, social support, self-compassion, education.
We understandably fantasize that there may be a quick pill to restore us. My approach is about supporting you in getting well in the middle of your own life. Sometimes it takes more time, like therapy or the gym. Sometimes it takes the same amount of time as always, like noticing what you’re already doing: eating when eating, driving when driving.
The combination of mindful therapy and self-care with movement and food is a powerful elixir that can make important changes in our lives.
With skillful inner and outer guidance, you discover:
• what nourishes you
• what your brain needs to think clearly
• what your body asks for to feel alive
These are exciting times in rapidly developing new research on mindfulness and food. It is amazing to learn how these factors impact mood and sleep. I’m happy to share what research and experience shows while supporting you in being your own teacher.
You might get curious whether how you eat affects your mood as part of the picture. With this approach, which I call Eating with the Brain in Mind, you can find for yourself what works to calm you down, give you stable and lasting energy, and help you sleep like a baby.
I will help you set realistic weekly goals for self-care, including:
• mindfulness
• movement
• food and drink
Each week, how you’ve related to your own goal, including forgetting it, is another opportunity for kindness and gentle humor. I’ll give you space to hope, to grieve the real losses found in change, to explore your deeply held values, to talk about how to find time and what the heck you want to eat instead.
Possible outcomes of our work together:
1. Be happier
2. Understand more about your body and mind
3. Understand bodies and minds in general
4. Have a healthier brain
5. Sleep
Please call 510-594-8224 to schedule your first appointment in Oakland and get thoughtful answers to any questions you may have.
These approaches are compatible with medications and an interdisciplinary team supporting your health. In collaboration with your doctor, you may find that you need less medication, or you may choose to change or increase your medication.
