Course  Description:

Research in Mental Health Nutrition and Functional Medicine explores the relationship between eating and mood. We will learn simple assessment and intervention for depression and anxiety. Blood sugar balance and digestive health can improve depression, anxiety, attention, pain, energy, sleep, and memory. Mindfulness can increase somatic awareness and self-efficacy. Size acceptance and social justice will be discussed.

This event is geared toward education for health care professionals, therapists, coaches, nurses, doctors, acupuncturists.

Learning Objectives: 
1 Discuss eating meditation and self-compassion
and practice experientially
2 Identify two reasons to assess client relationship with food.
3 Explain the role of hunger and blood sugar in mood.

We’ll learn:
•    eating meditation
•    how eating fat may help mood and brain health
•    some simple ways to talk about food and body love in your assessments and interventions


This orientation is a great way to find out if you would like to take a comprehensive program for your mood or refer others.

Continuing Education
Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.

CE credits for psychologists, LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT, and RNs in California, and for National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coaches, are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA), which is co-sponsoring this program. Professionals from states other than California need to check with their state licensing board as to whether or not they accept programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.

About Reba 

I’m Reba Connell, Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Professional and clinical social worker. I've been focused on mindfulness and mental health nutrition and have taught therapists, health care providers, and stressed-out people to balance their mood and investigate the connection between mood and food with curiosity and self-compassion.
 
I have completed professional training in teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli and a training in teaching Mindful Eating through UCSD.
 
I have studied with Dr. Leslie Korn and many of the leaders in Mental Health Nutrition and the Functional Medicine. 
 
I deeply care about food justice and hope you'll envision and collaborate with me to create a world where nourishing food is available to all.
